Saturday Play Date: Twix & Gracie Take Over the House

Saturday Play Date: Twix & Gracie Take Over the House

Yesterday was one of those slow, cozy Saturdays where time moves at dog-pace — which is to say, perfectly. Our nine-year-old Twix got to spend the afternoon hanging out with her longtime friend Gracie, who’s also nine. They’ve known each other for years, and whenever they reunite, they have a familiarity with one another.

The “play date” lasted about six hours, though to be honest, very little of it involved actual playing. It was more of a vibes afternoon — wandering, lounging, following me, observing, and occasionally deciding the other dog might be interesting again.

Gracie Arrives, Full of Opinions

Gracie - What's the plan?

Deep Thoughts From a Small Dog

If self-driving cars are real now, why can’t we have self-walking leashes?

A few minutes later she was already staring off into the middle distance like she’d just solved a major world problem. Gracie thinks more in an afternoon than most of us do in a month.

Meanwhile, Twix Was Still Booting Up

Twix - what's going on here?

The Play Date Becomes a Snack Date

I heard food was a part of this date...

Twix, Ready for Action (…Maybe)

Is a toy or ball going to be thrown or what?

The Afternoon Wound Down Peacefully

Until we meet again.

Six hours passed the way only a dog afternoon can: slowly, quietly, and with lots of small moments that aren’t dramatic but stick with you anyway.

All in all, a very successful dog-date.
